Psychological assessment

The initial assessment is an opportunity for us to explore the difficulties you want help with. Typically an assessment lasts one and a half hours and we will ask you questions about when the problem started and how you experience the problem now. We also ask about your life in general and gather information about your background history. This helps us get a better idea of you as a person. We may also ask you to fill in some questionnaires that focus on the symptoms you are experiencing.

By the end of the assessment we should have a better idea of why the problem started and what keeps it going. We can then think together about what might be useful in managing the problem, and whether therapy would be useful.

If you would like to proceed with therapy, we will let you know how many sessions we think would be beneficial.

Psychological therapy

At Psychology Specialists psychological therapy is bespoke and tailored to you. We are trained in a number of different therapies and can draw upon these to get the best possible outcome for you. This includes cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and psychodynamic approaches.

Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly or fortnightly. At the beginning of therapy we agree on the goals that you want to work on during the sessions, and we continually review our progress towards these goals during the sessions.

At the heart of good psychological therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Therapy is collaborative, with you and your therapist working together as a team to help you reach your goals.

Supervision and Training

We provide clinical supervision to psychologists and mental health professionals as well as bespoke staff training packages to organisations.
